Legislation Requiring Action

HB 1511 ammends an act from May 23, 1945, which allows third class cities to raise a retirees payments, such that now they must raise the payments. With the current underfunding of pension accounts, this change in this act will cause more defecits in the pension accounts thus causing even higher tax increases to make up for the short fall. The cities already have the ability to raise payments as they see fit, it is not the states place to tell cities they must raise payments. We must contact the House Committee of Urban Affairs and oppose this bill.
