VETO BARZILOSKI, SR serves as the Chairman. Born and raised in Tunkhannock. He graduated from Tunkhannock Area High School in 1972 and shortly after left for the United States Marine Corps. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant in 1976, at which time he joined the family business of landscape contracting, nursery, and Christmas tree growers. To date he operates Bennie's Nurseries, Inc. with his wife and three sons. While in the Marine Corps he learned to fly and currently holds an active pilot license. He was a member of the Tunkhannock Area School Board for four years. He was on the Penn State Co-opperative Extension Board in Wyoming County Northern Tier region and state for several years. Veto also served on the Christmas Tree Advisory Task Force at Penn State and was a member of the Northern Tier Hardwood Association. He is an active member of the Osterhout Bible Church and served on the Board of Deacons. Being a life long resident and business man in Wyoming County, Veto is excited about working with this group and is determined to keep taxes at a minimum and insure that these monies are spent properly. Jeff Helwig serves as the Vice Chairman and Treasurer. He is a Wyoming County resident, and has over nine years experience as a law enforcement officer, including over five years experience as a Wyoming County Deputy Sheriff, and four years experience as the head defensive tactics law enforcement instructor, and supervisor for the Deputy Sheriff’s Basic Training Academy at Penn State University, main campus. Helwig’s, law enforcement instructor certifications, include: certification from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, the Pennsylvania Deputy Sheriff’s Education and Training Board, Penn State Justice and Safety Institute, the Bureau of Justice Assistance/Institute for Intergovernmental research, and Protective Safety Systems of John C. Desmedt, U.S. Secret Service, retired. Helwig is the current head defensive tactics law enforcement instructor at Penn State, and also holds two instructor development certifications, one from the Pennsylvania State Police, and one from Penn State University. Helwig has developed the Law Enforcement Counter Assault Training System for all branches of law enforcement and security. He is a US Armed Forces veteran, and was also recruited by Black Water Security as an instructor to train Iraq police. At the World Karate Championships, He won a gold medal for fighting in 1998, and a silver medal for fighting in 1995. With his experience and skills, Jeff Helwig is dedicated and committed to your service.
